William R. Wilson

William R. "Bill" Wilson, 60, of Du Quoin, passed away at 1:25 A.M., Friday, May 23, 2008 at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Bill had worked for thirty years as a coal miner at Captain Mine of Arch Coal Company.  He had also worked as a lab supervisor for Illinois MPP.  He was a member of the Sunfield United Methodist Church and was a Sunday School Teacher.  He was a member of United Methodist Men and a member of UMW of A.  He was an avid golfer, fisherman, handyman and enjoyed hunting.

He was born July 22, 1947 at Du Quoin, IL, the son of Lewis and Nina (Brown) Wilson. He was raised by his parents - William and Nina Thornburg. He married Lee E. Lay on July 22, 1965 at Du Quoin, IL and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, three children - Greg Wilson of Du Quoin, Anna Bauman and husband Brad of Evansville, WI, and Josh Wilson of Du Quoin, two brothers - Ron Wilson and wife Melissa of Englewood, CO, and Andy Thornburg and wife Kelly of Carbondale, two sisters - Mary Haines and husband Rich of Du Quoin and Linda Thornburg-Panther and husband Klaus of Germany, five grandchildren - Courtney Mason, Dane Mason, Tayler Wilson, Kaylee Bauman, and Cassidy Bauman, two great grandchildren - Kendall Mason and Channing Mason, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents - William and Nina Thornburg and his father - Lewis Wilson.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, May 26, 2008 at the Sunfield United Methodist Church in Sunfield with Rev. Mike Kesling officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 P.M., Sunday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin and from 9 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Monday.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to Sunfield United Methodist Church Building Fund or Pinckneyville Hospital Oncology Department and will be accepted at the funeral home.
